Queens Library’s “Financial Literacy in the Community” is presented in partnership with local non-profit institutions experienced in providing financial and investor education to immigrant and low-income community members. Incorporating FINRA Investor Education Foundation Content Modules, documents created by previously funded Smart Investing @ Your Library projects and their own resources, these partnering organizations offer instructional financial and investment programs and services at Queens Library locations to immigrants and low-income Queens residents.
Programs are presented in both English and those languages native to the predominant ethnic groups in attendance (Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Korean and Spanish). Financial educators from the non-profit groups accompany the presenters and provide individualized consultations to those participants who seek additional information, as well as direct them to their local community organization for more education and counseling.
The partnership also supports the library’s acquisition of written collections, DVDs and CDs on financial literacy in the predominant languages spoken by immigrants residing in Queens.
